Pitchfest Open for Geelong Entrants

Dianna Somerville and Rebecca Burrows

The Australia Post Regional Pitchfest is on until 28 April and local innovators and small businesses with a budding business idea can find out more about building a successful pitch next Tuesday, 18 April at the Geelong Small Business Hive.

The Pitchfest is a national pitching competition open to entrepreneurs, small businesses and startups in regional and rural Australia. Pitching entries are made via video, either posted online or entrants can film their pitch and submit their application on the night during the touring information sessions. Finalists will pitch live on stage to a panel of innovation experts as part of the State and Territory finals in June and July, with national finalists competing in Wagga Wagga in August for their share of around $100,000 in prizes, including cash prizes, a Melbourne Accelerator Program (MAP) supported trip to Silicon Valley and an Australia Post eCommerce Business Growth Pack.

Tuesday night’s information session is your chance to hear more about the Australia Post Regional Pitchfest and meet some local entrepreneurs.

Australia Post General Manager Small Business, Rebecca Burrows, said that with only a few weeks until applications close, now is the time to pitch your great business idea.

“Being a finalist or winner at Australia Post Regional Pitchfest can connect you with important contacts and help you commercialise your bright idea or product improvement.

“This competition is open to anyone living in regional and rural areas so if you know someone who has a great business idea, but who maybe needs some more support to take it to the next level, then Australia Post Regional Pitchfest is absolutely for them.

“As well as the Pitchfest competition itself, finalists will be offered opportunities to grow their business idea with networking events, workshops, and mentoring to improve their business connections, build their confidence and get to the next level,” said Ms Burrows.

Regional Pitchfest Founder Dianna Somerville said while they were seeing some amazing entries from across the country, there are still lots of people sitting on their ideas.

“A lot of people have asked us the same question: Is my idea good enough? The simple answer is that an idea is worth nothing if you don’t do anything with it. We all have to start somewhere, and the Australia Post Regional Pitchfest is an encouraging, inclusive and low-risk way of taking that next step.”

Entry into the Pitchfest is free. Here’s how you do it:

  1. Fill out the application form online at regionalpitchfest.com and add a profile pic.

  2. Upload a one-minute video pitch that talks about your great idea. Focus on The Pitch (what is the problem your idea will solve) and The Business (where is your idea at, what is the customer
proposition, the business and growth plan).
  3. Attach a 200-word bio about yourself and your journey so far.

If you think you just might have a great business idea and want to do something about it, get along to the free Geelong information session.
