Upstart Challenge launches into 2017
Whitney Houston believed that children are our future and if the bright young minds taking part in Geelong's Upstart Challenge are anything to go by, our future is something to get excited about.
The Upstart Challenge is back for 2017 with that excitable bundle of entrepreneurial energy, Jason Clarke, once again leading the charge amongst a growing collective of Geelong change makers, trailblazers and entrepreneurs supporting the high school startup Challenge this year.
“The support and collaboration of business, educators and the wider community is critical in preparing our young people for the changing jobs of the future,” said Upstart Director, Jen Perks. “We’re passionate about young people being empowered to create their own jobs and encourage anyone with an interest in our young people’s futures to become a change maker by supporting Upstart too.”
The Upstart Challenge brings students together with experienced entrepreneurs and change makers to learn how to generate, evaluate and develop business ideas in the real world. The Challenge culminates in a Shark Tank style Pitching Showdown where students pitch their idea to a panel of investors in front of a 200+ strong audience.
“Building a culture of entrepreneurship in Geelong is such an important part of creating a prosperous life for the whole community”, says Heather Kelly, Upstart Director, “and we believe that starts with our teenagers being empowered to have a go!”
