Sound around

Life should have moved on from big wooden speakers in your living space, inside or out.

Smart technology from Massachusetts-based Bose is changing all that. Known the world over for its premium speaker design, Bose has released the SoundLink Revolve and Revolve+. Both are battery-powered and fully rechargeable Bluetooth speakers. The Revolve series disperse audio in 360 degrees and is shower resistant to the IPX4 standard. Compact and lightweight, starting at 152mm tall and 82mm across the base, the Revolve is a satisfying handful weighing in at 660g.

The aluminium grille surrounds the lower half and a rubber base for the top where the controls are set. There are buttons for adjusting the volume, switching between aux and USB, as well as Bluetooth audio sources, with pause and play or skip to and fro. There is also a hold down function to activate either Google Assistant or Siri, depending on the smartphone you have connected. With IPX4 water-resistance you can use it in a rain shower, but not submerge it. Bose say that the Battery life is around 12 hours of playback (16hrs for the Revolve+).

Where the Bose Revolve really impresses is exactly where you would expect - the sound. For a speaker of this size the sound is simply stunning with perfect 360-degree dispersion. Under the hood is a single, full-range down firing driver with a pair of passive radiators. The engineers at Bose have also included a new technology called “pressure trap” to reduce distortion and, with a lot of road testing, I can assure you that it works incredibly well.

The Revolve sells in Australia from $299 and $439 for the Revolve+. Highly recommended.
